OK, OK, OK.... with the "Extreme Couponing" show becoming a series and airing this week, I thought I'd finally let the cat out of the bag. I AM NOT AN EXTREME COUPONER!!!! Nor do I think anyone should be. Now, if some of you readers are extreme couponers, please do not think that this is a jab at you. It's at the show and those who choose to be on it and give couponing a bad name. Because of this show, it makes people think that those of us who use coupons are CRAZY!! And it may in fact make them not want to ever even clip a coupon! That is absolutely absurd! Coupons are a great way to save money. If you need to pay of debt or have lost a job, using coupons and planning your shopping should save you 100's of dollars every month. All with out being "Extreme!"
There is absolutely no need for THAT MUCH CEREAL or even toilet paper for that matter. I firmly believe that you only need to stockpile enough for 3-6 months. The sale cycles usually repeat themselves about every 3 months anyways so there's really no need for more. I promise you, you will see the deal again!!! The only time I ever get more is if it's free. Take my free dishwasher detergent for example. I bought about years worth and only spent a few dollars on tax and purchasing 10 coupons on Ebay. I didn't buy 1,000 coupons on Ebay!!! I didn't go wasting my day digging through dumpsters, I didn't scour the ads for hours on end {although I do scour them for you!}. I knew, from years of being frugal and clipping coupons, that $2.25 off of dishwasher detergent is an amazing coupon! So I ordered 10 extra on Ebay and waited for a deal. Voila! CVS and Target both had great sales that enabled me to get them for FREE - $.25 each!
Another reason I don't agree with the "Extreme Coupon" ordeal is that it promotes unhealthy eating habits! I honestly do throw out about 1/2 of the coupons in the paper! Yes, I do! As you may have noticed, I try to post lots of organic deals and don't always post the lovely FREE Lucky Charms deals! We don't need to shove that stuff down our throat just because it's free. You'll end up spending a fortune in medical bills later down the road! Now, don't get me wrong. It's not that I NEVER buy junk food. I certainly do! I just try not to buy a lot of it. And when you're in the coupon mode and see "FREE", your impulse is to grab it! It just makes me sick when I see these "Extreme couponers" with their abundance of sugar cereal, fruit snacks, and frozen meals that are loaded with HFCS, and all kinds of other crap that doesn't belong in our bodies!
And, yet another reason... I get to the store to get my free deodorant and it's ALL GONE!! Seriously people!!! You don't need THAT much deodorant! Even if you're going to donate it {or whatever other justification you have}, you don't need to take all 12 of them off the shelf! A lot of "Extreme Couponers" are clearing the shelves and leaving no good deals for the people who actually need the deal to survive. It's just all really frustrating! I fear that companies will start offering lower valued coupons and I've already seen stores changing their coupon policies {for the worse}. It's just going to get ruined for all of us!
So... that's my rant for the day! I am NOT an Extreme Couponer, NOR do I think you should be! This is not intended to offend any of you. We are all entitled to our own opinions and if being extreme is your forte, then so be it! I'm just tired of people saying "Oh, I saw that Extreme Couponing and thought of you!" It's not me!!!
