Do It Yourself: Invitations

We've spent the morning making invitations for Morgan's 9th birthday ~ Don't even get me started on how time flies! I've almost always made my own invitations.  I say almost because I know for a fact that there were parties where the kids wanted the "theme" invites and I really didn't care.  It just meant less work for me!  But, honestly, I LOVE LOVE LOVE home made invites.  They really are so simple and extremely affordable!

They're simple enough to let the birthday girl help too!  I probably spent about $4 on the paper, which I still have tons of.  I bought 9 x 5 envelopes a few years ago when the big packs were BOGO at Staples and I've used them for lots of invites.

Anyways, on to the DIY!
Use some sort of decorative scrap booking paper.  I bought mine at Michaels with a coupon (imagine that!).
I used the pink card stock for the printing but you could use just plain white copy paper to make it even less expensive.
Then, cut your decorative paper to the dimensions you need depending on your envelope size.  Mine is not the exact size of the envelope but I don't get too picky about that.
Next, type up your invitation.  I did 4 to a page and tweaked it a little to be sure it was smaller than the decorative paper.

Then, just print and cut!  It's really that simple!  They don't have to be perfect because no one is going to see them all at once.  The sizes don't have to be exactly the same, etc, etc.
We attached ours with some kids glue sticks.

Then we dug through our craft box and found some silk flowers.  Took those apart and used one layer for each invite.  Put a little dab of hot glue and a rhinestone... voila!
I'm pretty impressed myself!  It only took about an hour and honestly just cost a few dollars!  I'm all about using what you have and doing things yourself.  If I would have ordered these invites it would have cost a heck of a lot more money.  And, if I used store bought, that would have still cost more!
